Artist Of The Month September 2009

Posted by Musiq World Order on October 22, 2009 at 9:45 PM Comments comments (0)

Stage Name:

Ms Proper

 Real Name:

 Shantale Person

 Hometown:

Well I was born in Fayetteville, NC but I've been in VA since I was 5. Now I live in the cap city of VA (Richmond)

Ok… so now we're going to get a little bit personal by asking you what do you like to do in your free time?

Otherthan music I pretty much like to chill, watch movies, play video games, and spend time with my family. As far as going out I prefer bars andlounges rather than clubs. It's more laid back and you don't have toscream at the person next to you to have a conversation lol.

What made you want to become a musician? Where did you get your start in the industry?

ActuallyI was always writing and I started an Independent label by the name ofSo Proper Entertainment in 2006. My plan was to just do background workbut I ended up doing a couple of features for my first artist Conciseand people just demanded more of me so I decided to pursue it and givethe people what they want.

 What is your music background?

WellI began writing poetry and little raps when I was 8 years old. Mymother is big into poetry so it was kind of one of those things where Iwas following her footsteps. Growing up I went through a lot ofemotions as far as my father not being there so I began writing songsas an outlet to my pain. Eventually I moved on to other topics but Iwas so shy at first that I would only let my mother hear my material. Ifinally broke out of my shell and let the world see my talent. My onlyregret is that I didn't do it sooner, but everything happens for areason right?*

Who are your influences? Who were some of your inspirations growing up?

Wellmy first influence was my mother. Growing up musically I was influencedby Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Fabolous and eventually it grew to Kanye West, MosDef, N*E*R*D, Lupe Fiasco, and Common. Currently I find inspiration inthe same artists but also new artists such as W.A.L.E., B.O.B, and KiDCuDi

What do you consider to be your greatest asset to this music industry?

HonestlyI feel I can give quality music. Not to knock other artists butmainstream hip-hop has taken a road that I just don't understand. Idon't crank dances, I don't stanky leg, I'm just me and that's what Iput in every record. I'm not trying to be anyone else but myself andthat's what a lot of artists lack.

What do you feel you have to bring to the music world?

Anew breath of fresh air. I am a diverse artist so I can do any kind oftopic. However, I don't really speak too much on being gangsta or stufflike that. Granted I've been around it and what not but I feel I canbring more to music that that. Plus it’s hard to find a decent femalerapper who isn’t taking the super pop route our trying to be the nextLil Kim. A lot of people say I’m the best female rapper but I don’tjust put myself in the category with females. I can go against a malerapper just like a female and hold my own. Matter of fact the onlybattles or beefs I’ve had were with males. *

Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal?

Well like I said I run an independent label so if anything I'm looking for a decent distribution deal.

Are you a part of any music label, if so which one(s)?

SoProper Entertainment is that label I run. Other than me there are twoother rappers Concise and NSane. I also have two singers Tiffany andT*Starz.

How do you feel about the competition out there right now?

lol Not to be cocky but I feel as if I'm driving in my own lane, makingmy own rules, and making my own music. For me to feel as if I havecompetition would mean I'm in the same category as a lot of artistswhich I don’t feel I am.

What personality to you want to display to fans through your music?

Everysong I want my listeners to get a piece of me. Whether it be the pastme, present me, or the me I want to be in the future. There are manysides to Ms Proper so I try to show them all. At times I even letShantale come out and speak to the people.

If you had to say one of each what would be your strength in music, and what would be your weakness?

Mystrength would have to be my originality and my drive. I refuse to letanything stand in my way of my goals. A weakness would probably have tobe my location. I love VA but it's so hard to find shows that don'twant you to pay an arm and a leg for a 1 minute slot. lol. Ok that wasan exaggeration but you get my point.

What would you say is your hottest song right now?

Hands down "Friday Night". It appeals to so many different types of people. It's just a feel good track.

Describe your fan base. Who is your music meant for?

Mymusic is meant for everyone or at least that's what I try to do. When Idrop a project I understand everyone will not like EVERYTHING so I tryto do a little something so at least someone can pick one song and say"Hey, that's my joint" when they play it.

Who would you most compare your style to?

I'vehad a lot of comparisons to Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, and MC Light. I even hadsomeone tell me I reminded them of Left Eye. All of those areflattering but honestly I don't compare myself to anyone.

Who did you learn from the most?

Lyricallyartists like Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco, pretty much all myinfluences. Whether I learned how to flip lyrics, how to come up withcreative topics, or how to not be afraid to try something new myinfluences are my teachers.

Who has helped you the most as an artist?

Asfar as my drive and what people want to hear I would have to say mymother and Tiffany just because they give me the most feedback. I wouldalso have to credit a producer by the name of E*Klipse Tha Champloobecause he's the type of cat that if I half step he's going to let meknow. So he basically showed me no matter what I do I have to make thenext verse my best verse.*

Do you write your own songs?

Ofcourse! I find it extremely hard to even listen to rappers who don'twrite their own lyrics. Rappers always claim they are the best, but howcan you be the best if someone else is writing what you are saying on atrack. Then you wouldn't be the best, your writer would. *

What are your songs about?

Mysongs touch different topics such as my struggle through life, mystruggle trying to become a top artist. I also have tracks like "FridayNight" which show my party side. Then there are those songs I speak onrelationships. Like I said I'm very diverse lol

How do you describe your music to people?

Iwould have to say each song is a different portrait. The instrumentalis my canvas and my words are the picture. I try to paint every picturethe best way possible. At times I may be a little abstract but thatjust means you have to step outside of the box to figure me out. If Idon't make you think then what am I but another simple artist? When Ispeak on personal issues I want you to feel my pain. When I'm sayingI'm the best I want you to feel empowered. When I say I'm fly I wantyou to put your best outfit on. When I talk about my struggle I wantyou to reflect on yours. My music is your music. We have the same storywith different characters.

What image do you think your music conveys?

Funnymy family always says I should have clean versions of my songs and notsay certain things to clean up my image for my younger listeners.Edited versions of songs are fine and I respect all listeners buthonestly if I have to correct myself or not say certain things AT ALLthen how can I say I am being myself? The image I put out is Ms Proper.I'm not a gangsta, I'm not a teeny bopper. I'm a 22 year old who has amessage to deliver. Love me or hate me I am me.

What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)

Honestlywithin the next year I really want to lock my area down. I get playsand I have fans however I want to walk around my city and have peoplebe like "Yo aren't you Ms Proper". When I drop a project I want thecity to bump it. Within that 1 to 3 year period I would love to openfor bigger artists just to create a nationwide buzz.

What are your long-term career goals?

I said once in a song that I don't want popularity I want longevity. That is because popularity is sweet and has its perks but just likehigh school it is short lived. I want to be around for a while. I'm notgoing to be 40 dropping albums but I will be keeping the So Properbrand alive. *

How would you define the word "success"?

Successto me is more than the money you have in your bank account. If I cantouch people with my words and have that longevity that I spoke on thento me that is success. I don't have to be a billionaire as long as myfamily is okay and my siblings don't have to worry about how they aregoing to pay for college, then I am successful. If I can inspire peoplelike the people that have inspired me, then I am successful.

Have you had any radio play?

 Yes, recently.

What were you doing when you first heard your single on the radio?

I was in the studio, and actually didn't get to hear it.

How long did you, or have you been working on your album?

Ihave been working on this current project for about 5 months now. Iknow a lot of artists whip theirs together real fast but I like to taketime.

What's the title of the album or what is it  gonna be?

Thetitle is "The Wake Up" was just released in July. I named it thatbecause I feel although I do have fans there are still a lot of peoplewho either don't know me or aren't trying to hear me. So for thesleepers it's time to wake up. *

Do you have a demo or press kit, or any other promotional materials?

Yes, I have a press kit that I send out when required.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Iwas that girl in high school that sat in the back of the class andcracked jokes and was listening to music with my peers not even knowingwhat I was capable of musically because my own shyness held me back. Now I'm 22 and ready to be heard. Ms Proper is the cocky, lyrical, lifeof the party side. Shantale is the humble, laid back, fun loving side.Everyone gets Ms Proper only a few will understand Shantale. As I saidin a song "You hear my words and picture my life/ some of you pictureme wrong others picture me right/ the moral is I can't define myself ina verse/ but when I'm in a hearse only a verse measure my worth"*

What type of music do you listen to? Who is on your iPod right now other than yourself?

Awman so much, I have Kid CuDi, Kanye West, W.A.L.E., B.O.B, Ced Hughes,Curren$y, Day 26, N*E*R*D,  Skillz, Trey Songz, Musiq Soulchild, Icould go on for days.

Is there anything you'd like to tell the people before you go?

Showsupport! Real artists are hard to find and the half way artists aregetting too much shine. I know too many talented people who are notgetting their shot. And for those already showing love I appreciate itto the fullest and I love ya’ll back.

August Artist of The Month 2009

Stage Name:

 Young Son

 Real Name:

Michael Hannah

 Hometown:

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Ok… so now we're going to get a little bit personal by asking you what do you like to do in your free time?

Inmy free time, I do a lot of thinking, browse the internet, stay activewithin the online social networks and be sure to keep up on my the newmusic of all genres coming out.  I’m a firm believer of listening tofull albums and having that listening experience, ya know?  People needto start learning how to appreciate music before formulating anopinion.  (Do you fools listen to music or do you just skim throughit).  Sorry…I’m rambling.  LOL

What made you want to become a musician? Where did you get your start in the industry?

I always wanted to be a hip hop artist when I figured out I wanted toexpress myself to the world.  I've also been in love with music asearly as I can remember.  I've been rapping and making music 8 yearsold, but I'll say that I became seriously on my grind in 11th Grade.

 What is your music background?

I grew up on the south side of Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He began gettinginterested in hip hop music as early as 4 years old.  As a youngster, Iperformed in  many of Minneapolis' community talents shows at locallibraries, parks and churches.  During my Jr. and Sr. High years, Ibecame an extensive poetry writer, being published in nationalanthologies and gaining nominations for Amateur Poet of the Year onmultiple occasions.  After high school graduation, I began a full-onplight as a professional artist.

In October 2006, I formedan unsigned independent recording collective called "InfluentialMelodiez" with various artists from the Twin Cities.  The label servedas a group of music independent artists as close affiliates in musicalcreation and promotion, with a specific positive aim on the populargenre of hip hop, rap, soul and urban music.  Along with former labeland group mate Hypel, I was nominated for "Best Kept Secret" award atthe 2007 Twin Cities Hip Hop Awards as the collective duo, "Young SquadHarmony".  Under the Influential Melodiez company/collective, Ireleased his first solo effort, "Soul Inspired: Hip Hop's Revival" onMay 25, 2007, and since then, I've been promoted through promotion andperformances throughout the United States.   As we come back to thehear and now, I'm working on my sophomore independent LP "Dreamer'sPoetry".

Who are your influences? Who were some of your inspirations growing up?

Spirituallyand throughout life, my inspiration is Jesus Christ.  Without himmoving in my life, I would be in shambles.  I give him all the glory.  Musically,I would say growing up I was really influenced by soul music, oldschool joints and Motown.  While my cousins and others were knowing thelatest Bone Thugs -N-Harmony songs, I was singing "The Supremes", "TheTemptations" and Smokey.  Real talk.  LOL.  I also remember enjoyingthe golden feeling on the 90s in hip hop and urban music, such as TheFugees, Brandy and Blackstreet.  My influences in the early 2000sincluded Eminem, and two Christian rap acts Sean Slaughter and CrossMovement.

What do you consider to be your greatest asset to this music industry?

I feel I'm what hip hop needs….sincerity.

What do you feel you have to bring to the music world?

That Inspirational, influential "dang, I gotta play that back cuz that homey was just so real and true with it" type feeling.

Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal?

Truthfully,I'd love a major label deal that would still let me be me.  Anindependent label usually guarantees that, so I wouldn't mind that…theywould need good distribution and marketing though.  Definitely.

Are you a part of any music label, if so which one(s)?

I'mnot officially a part of a label.  I have an unsigned collective werefer as a 'label" called "Influential Melodiez" and I would like toexpand that when I get established in the music industry.

How do you feel about the competition out there right now?

Whatcompletion?  LOL.  Naw, but real talk.  I feel people in my age bracketisn't on what I'm on.  My competition will be the heads that are alittle older than me who are trying to make music with substance…andeven then…it wouldn't be a competition.  Everyone would embraceeveryone because they are real.

What personality to you want to display to fans through your music?

 A genuine one.

If you had to say one of each what would be your strength in music, and what would be your weakness?

Ifeel my strength is really being in control and confident with what Iput out.  My weakness was the opposite of that previous statement…butI've changed now.

What would you say is your hottest song right now?

Well, for the longest, my most popular song has been "This Far", a classic, produced by Newton, Massachusetts super producer Teddy Roxpin, with aguest appearance sample from one of hip hop's G.O.A.Ts. (And if youdon't know…now ya know!). It's been reviewed all over a lot of hip hopsites and has had minimal circulation. I'm pretty sure it helped fueledmy 2008 Nomination for Twin Cities Hip Hop Album of the Year.  Rightnow I think my current single “SUCCESS IS…” is doing well.  People haveexpressed that my joints “My Bus Ride Home” & “Git Live” have beenfavorites from my mix ape (MWO’s Mixtape of the Month last month).

Describe your fan base. Who is your music meant for?

Everyone. I want everyone to be touched by it.  I actually don't care if thatsounds cliché…that's just really my aim.  I want to break barriers, stereotypes, hip hop's negative connotations and even racial, style andclass divisions.

Who would you most compare your style to?

Toput it in a nutshell from the feedback I've received from most people,my lyrical style resembles Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco and I sonicallyresemble Biggie's speech and vocal sound at a much higher pitch(Whatever that means…lol)

Who did you learn from the most?

My father.  He's taught my real life lessons all my life that molded me to the man I am today.

Who has helped you the most as an artist?

I'mnot sure.  I had lots of influences and I want to give props toeverything as a whole that influenced me to become who I am.

Do you write your own songs?

I absolutely do.  There is no Gille Da Kid around here. (That's an inside Lil Wayne joke if you missed that.)

 What are your songs about?

Communitytopics, social consciousness on the things in some of the moredown-rotten areas of the world, inner-harmony and self reflection. Other topics I speak about is God and my faith, creating music thateveryone can feel and just life in general.  Oh yeah..one more thing. I'm on that anti-ignorance movement!  I rap about this idiots stillacting a fool and giving bad reflections to the culture who probablyneed to smell the Folgers sometime soon here.

How do you describe your music to people?

Idon't like describing my music to anyone.  I actually really loathethat question.  I simply let them find out for themselves.  It's beenso serious that I will GIVE someone my album for free to listen to justso they could fully understand what I'm about.  I could tell someonewhat I rap and write about, but in the end, everyone perceives andreceives things differently.  Why take away their individual right toanalyze a piece of work and come up with their own opinions andconclusions themselves?

What image do you think your music conveys?

Somethingfresh content wise that will at least get someone taking that secondlook.  Haters or lovers alike will still look back and say that "Dudeis different".  I think that's the image.  They'll say I'm differentand also level headed and about my business, whether they choose tocosign or not.

What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.)

Onthe real, I would like to have a deal by the end of 2009.  There aresome possibilities that are actually looking tangible right now and I’mvery excited about that.  I know people might look at that and laugh orsay it's a farfetched goal. But if you don't choose goals, what are youdoing? I might not be signed by then. Will I quit? Definitely not. I'lljust pick another date. It's an on going process. But between then andnow, my shorter term goals included finishing my sophomore album"Dreamer's Poetry", and packing the crowd at my release party.

What are your long-term career goals?

Mylong term career goals is to make this my life…performing and travelingall across the world, touching people with the music.

How would you define the word "success"?

Successis when you reach whatever you decided "success" for you was.  I don'treally agree with you saying this can't be a short answer…becausethat's my answer completely right there.  You set your ultimate goalbased on the definition you have created to be "success" and you striveto reach it.  Everything after that is butter.

Have you had any radio play?

Yes,I've been on a plethora of college radio stations, mostly on the EastCoast, including New Jersey.  I've been on the Top 40 Hip Hop andCommunity Radio stations in the Twin Cities, including B96, KMOJ &89.3 The Current, commonly dubbed as "Rhymesayers Radio"

What were you doing when you first heard your single on the radio?

I was listening at the crib.  It was played like at a quarter tillmidnight and everyone in my house was sleep and it was quiet, so I wasjust listening to it in the headphones and had to be mad excitedsilently.  LOL.

How long did you, or have you been working on your album?

I worked on my first album from Nov. 1, 2007 until it's release on May 25th.

Istarted on my sophomore album "Dreamer's Poetry" that following month,in June 2007 and I hope to have it done and out by November 2009.

What's the title of the album or what is it  gonna be?

My upcoming album is titled "Dreamer's Poetry".  It came to me in a dream…no pun intended.

Do you have a demo or press kit, or any other promotional materials?

I have an EPK and music to distribute as demos and samples of my craft.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

(Peep the rest of the interview, above and below…lol)

What type of music do you listen to? Who is on your iPod right now other than yourself?

Blu& Exile, Common, Consequence, Drake, Eminem, Eva Cassidy, Hope(Sweet Lemon Records), India Arie, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Little Brother,Michael Jackson, Quest, Slink Proper and ironically….Soulja Boy's newsingle "Turn My Swag On (I used to be a hater…but you gotta dig theboy's hustle and marketing.  I can't knock it and can't front like Ididn't "Crank Dat" at least once in 2007...lol)

Ok… so now we're going to get a little bit personal by asking you what do you like to do in your free time?

Hmmmm honestly.......Travel and Promote in diffrent areas I've never been...so I can get my network poppin

What made you want to become a musician? Where did you get your start in the industry?

Well it was actually a lot of things that occured in my life that mademe the person and artist I am today......battles, underground shows and people such as Rob.G, The Choppaholix and a few dj clicks help me getmy movement rollin.

What is your music background?

Well we all started on diffrent levels.....Rob.G and myself were veryinvolved in the undergroun battle circuit...then from their he built ateam called "Swat Product" who are various artist he believed in andwanted 2 make part of his team. Our Team consist of Artist such asv-zilla who is a Legend in the underground ciruit...you should googlethat dude...myself....dolemic "the kickdo king" na mean.......fame$ity"Mr. Texas made" and of Course Rob.

Who are your influences? Who were some of your inspirations growing up?

Actually when I started gettin into music and actually listening andstudien the art.....around my area groups like wreckshop, swishahouse,do or die and kats like that was poppin..so a lot of the music I jammedwas that.  I payed attention to other nationwide music...but since Iwas younger that was all we knew....artist such as Jada, E-40, 8 ball, and dj screw definetly had a major impact on  the way I wanted 2deliever my music and make it relevant to me and my market.

What do you consider to be your greatest asset to this music industry?

Well in my opinion.....I actually feel the music I make can helpmyself, my family, and inspire a lot of people, no matter what marketit is. Stage Name: Spark aka SparkDawg

Hometown: Killeen, TX aka "Green City"

Ok? so now we?re going to get a little bit personal by asking you what do you like to do in your free time?

Honestly all my "free time" is spent on the road...This music biz is a 24/7 grind. So when I'm not in the studio makin hits, I'm on the road networking or doin a show. A wise man once told me "Nothin comes to a sleeper but a dream." So I figure I can sleep when I'm dead ya dig?

What made you want to become a musician? Where did you get your start in the industry?

As a youngster, I've always been into whateva was "popular" or whateva made the girls look my way. At 1st, I use to consider myself a pretty good dancer. Then at 1 point in time I actually thought I knew how to sing. Once I realized I wasn't gonna become the R&B sensation, I tried rappin. I finally took rap serious around 2000. That's when I caught a greyhound bus to Atlanta got my 1st "break" in the music biz when I signed a management contract w/the same management team behind Lil Scrappy at the time.

What is your music background?

I've always considered myself a "solo" artist, but throughout my career I've had a few various affliations along the way.  1st official "group" was Lil Scrappy's "G's Up Click." I was the only member from Texas. Everyone else was from ATL. After runnin w/Scrappy for about 2 yrs, I decided to step outside of his shadow to do my own thang. So I left Atlanta & came back home to Texas. That's when I hooked up w/my highschool homies who already had a rap group called "Greencity." Once I joined the group, I applied all the knowledge I learned from time in Atlanta & Greencity really took off from there. We put out a cd called "1st U Get The Money..." Somehow, Scarface heard our cd while working out in the gym & immediately tracked us down & offered us a deal. The rest is history.

Who are your influences? Who were some of your inspirations growing up?

My all time favorite is 2Pac...3 favorite current livin artists are Ludacris, Fabolous & Bun B. I think if you put those 3 artists together you get ME. As far as Texas artists, I grew up jamming Swishahouse artists like Chamillionaire..But on the flipside, I also like Jay-Z & DMX around that whole Hardknock Like era.

What do you consider to be your greatest asset to this music industry?

My greatest asset is the fact that my flow is so "universal." You can be from any region & still feel my flow.

What do you feel you have to bring to the music world?

I really wanna show the world that you don't have to be from a major city to be successful in this game. Alotta people never even heard of Killeen, TX before I blew up. Scarface coulda signed any artist in the world, but the fact that he reached all the way out to lil ole' Killeen to co-sign me & Greencity means a lot.

Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal? (Why?)

There's pros & cons with both situations. So at the end of the day, I'm lookin for the situation that's gonna get me the most money ya dig?

Are you a part of any music label, if so which one(s)?

I actually have my own company, SPARK-A-LOT RECORDS, LLC. Right now, we're lookin for a major situation to put my solo album out. I'm signed to Greencity Records as a "group member." But as far as my solo situation is conserned, I'm still "unsigned."

How do you feel about the competition out there right now?

Competition is cool. But there's a thin line between "competition" & "hate." I don't mind competition. I feel its needed in Hip-Hop. But when you come from such a small city, alotta locals tend to hate you because you're in a position they wish they could be in. Some people feel they have to "hate" on others to get ahead. That's that "crab in a bucket" mentality. That's the only part of the game I don't like. But it is what it is. I always heard that if people are "hatin" on you that means you're doin good. So I embrace the hate because obviously I'm doin good.

What personality to you want to display to fans through your music?

At the end of the day, I'm just a cool ass nigga ya dig?

If you had to say one of each what would be your strength in music, and what would be your weakness?

I think my strength is the fact that this rap shit comes so easy to me. I feel like I'm able to come up with these ill ass verses almost effortlessly. I honestly couldn't tell you any "weaknesses." I really feel like I was BLESSED to be 1 of the best.

What would you say is your hottest song right now?

Its hard to say because I've had so many huge underground & internet hits like "I'm From Texas," "Hit Me On My Sidekick," "Dial Tone," "Mouf Fulla Blang" feat. Trae, "Big Upz" feat. Wesfif, "Lets Get It," & my most recent single "Real Street Niggaz Revenge."

Describe your fan base. Who is your music meant for?

My music is meant for any & everybody that wants to enjoy good music.

Who would you most compare your style to?

"I'ma mixture Luda, Loso & Bun B...my whole city's behind me so fuck a buzz G"

Who has helped you the most as an artist?

Honestly, the 2 artist that initially really helped boost my solo career are Magno & TumTum. When I 1st got back to Texas from Atlanta, they both blessed me with verses on the remix of my single "I'm From Texas." That's the song that introduced me to the mixtape game. As far as recently, I gotta shout da big homie Trae for blessing me with a feature on a record I dropped "Mouf Fulla Blang." That record earned me an SEA nomination for "Song Of The Year" at last years awards. That was a pretty big record for me. I owe a lot to DJ Michael Watts for allowing me & Team Spark-A-Lot to be the 1st artists ever from Killeen, TX to be on an official Swishahouse released mixtape. That was history for my city. And ofcourse I gotta thank the Godfather Of The South himself, Scarface for givin me & Greencity a chance & introducing us to the masses.

Do you write your own songs?

Ofcourse....I also probably write YOUR favorite rapper's songs too.

What are your songs about?

I have all types of songs & different concepts. I have party records like "Pour It On Da Modelz." I have funny records like "Dial Tone." I have serious records like "Open Letter 2 GOD." I make all types of music.

How do you describe your music to people?

To me, music is like therapy. If I'm pissed off about something, I can go in booth & let all that frustration out on the mic instead of goin out & doin something bad to somebody in these streets. It feels real good to vent & get all your emotions out in the booth.

What image do you think your music conveys?

I think early on in my career, my image portrayed a laid back, fun lovin youngsta who was all about chasin women & havin a good time. But as I've matured, so has my music. Especially with songs like "Open Letter 2 GOD," "My Life Is Like A Movie" & "Real Street Niggaz Revenge"

What are your immediate music career goals?

I definitely plan on becoming a household name along with my label & artist on SPARK-A-LOT RECORDS, LLC.. Hopefully I'll have my solo album out on a major label. Time will tell..I guess you just gotta stayed tuned ya dig?

What are your long-term career goals?

I definitely wanna be known as 1 of the best that ever did it. Hopefully, I won't have to die for people to finally realize I'm something like a genius when it comes to this music shit.

How would you define the word ?success?? (This is not a short answer. Discuss it.)

"Success" in my opinion is when you can sit back & tell yourself, "Damn, I don't ever have to work another day in my life!" "Success" is when you can walk into your mother's place of work & tell her to clock out because he son made it & she never has to work another day in her life! That's "success" to me.

Have you had any radio play?

Most definately..especially in the central Texas area.

What were you doing when you first heard your single on the radio?

I honestly don't remember the 1st time I was on the radio because I've been on the radio a lot in my short career.

How long did you, or have you been working on your album?

I've been working on my solo album my entire life. I say that because I'm putting everything I've learn throughout my whole life into this album. Its gonna be a classic fasho

What?s the title of the album or what is it gonna be?

"Da Lone Star Kid"

Do you have a demo or press kit, or any other promotional materials?

In today's day in age, MYSPACE is the average artist's "demo." My myspace url is www.myspace.com/DaLoneStarKid I also have my own website www.SPARKDAWG.com

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm in my 20's. I've been features in every major Hip-Hop magazine from The SOURCE, to XXL, to Ozone, etc...I've been nominated for numerous Southern Ent Awards & Ozone Awards. I'm just a young dude from Killeen, TX. showin the world that the South really has lyrical talent & I'm living proof.

What type of music do you listen to? Who is on your iPod right now other than yourself?

Honestly, I hardly listed to a lot of other artist. Not that I think I'm "too good" to listen to anybody else. Its just that I be in my own zone & I try not to be influenced by what other artists are doin. I have my own style & flow. Instead of listening to other artists, I'd rather listen to my own music so I can critique it & perfect my craft ya dig?

Is there anything you?d like to tell the people before you go?

Yea. Keep GOD 1st & everything else'll work out.

Myspace link or link to other music pages?

I have a few myspace pages actually. My main MUSIC page is www.myspace.com/DaLoneStarKid. I have a page called "SPARKDAWG-TV" where all I do is post youtube video updates for my fan. That url is www.myspace.com/SparkakaSparkDawg. The SPARK-A-LOT RECORDS page is www.myspace.com/SparkalotRecords. I have an alternative page called F.B.I. aka Fly Boy Inc. That page showcase me & a few of my closest industry friends. The url is www.myspace.com/FlyBoyIncOfficial. Last but not least is my newest page called "SPARKDAWG'S FEATURES & COLLABS." That's the page where I showcase some of my latest features & collabs with other artist. That url is www.myspace.com/SparkDawgFeaturesAndCollabs.

Any shout outs?

GOD, my famm my friends, my artists, my business partner, the DJs, & the fans that support my music..Much love!

Ok… so now we're going to get a little bit personal by asking you what do you like to do in your free time?

Lets see... My free time I'm always on the COMPUTER or on the sidekick just keeping in touch with the fans and everything. You can usually catch me going through beats and stuff. Thats what I'm always doing

What made you want to become a musician? Where did you get your start in the industry?

I started out singing in church when I was little. But as I got older I realized i couldnt really SING (haha) but i always loved music and Rap is a way for me to really connect with people by simply letting my emotions OUT.

What is your music background?

I've been involved in music since i  can remember honestly. My uncle use to have a lil tape recorder that he would play music to and I'd rap over lol. But to make a long story short I started recording real songs in middle school and passing them out in school. I ended up dropping my first mixtape in 9th grade and things just took off from there

Who are your influences? Who were some of your inspirations growing up?

I alwayssssss loved jayz. Thats my all time favorite hands down. Anything jayz touches is hot to me

But as far as YOUNG, you can say there is lil mama and thats it.  But really If you listen to our music the content is different. I think she is very talented but I havent made no "lipgloss" music. I'm here for longevity.

CasaKnova

Real Name: RushDee Williams
Hometown: Saginaw, Michigan

Ok… so now we’re going to get a little bit personal by asking you what do you like to do in your free time?

Well in my free time as far as the family aspect I'm a family man. I have two kids,  that I love with all my heart that I try my best to be there for. And on the other note I'm always looking for more entertainment ventures.

What made you want to become a musician? Where did you get your start in the industry?

Well I knew I wanted to pursue my interest in the music industry when I met a friend and partner of mine named Capacity, it was then I realized rap was more than a dream. To see someone else as hungry as I was and ambitious as I was I knew God was sending me a message. Besides it would just be selfish, ungrateful, and stupid for me not to use all this raw talent God gave me, most dudes can't even tie they shoes and chew bubble gum lol. I got my first start in the music industry when I was maybe 15 when I bought an old computer mic and would sit in my dining room recording songs.

What is your music background?

To be honest I really don't know where the name CasaKnova came from I guess I just liked it then found out the meaning and that wasn't the message I was trying to send out but I was already attached to the name.

Who are your influences? Who were some of your inspirations growing up?

Growing up I was always inspired by my father. I know that's a very common answer but I don't wanna try to be so original that I lie*. *My dad has had a very rough life and I can't remember one time where I've seen him give up or even lose belief in whatever he believes in*. My mother still inspires me to this day because now that im a parent I understand a lot that she did, like the times we didn't have a place to sleep but my mom made sure me and my little sister had a warm place to sleep or a hot meal whether it was ramon noodles and hot dogs or grits and eggs. I now see that its hard work and for you to make it happen anyways even when its hard shows a lot.

What do you consider to be your greatest asset to this music industry?

My greatest asset to the game would have to be the leadership quality I have and the ability to inspire others. Especially the generation I represent, im living in the time where we have a African-American President and as long as im in the publics eye my word whether good or bad has an effect on people so as long as I can teach or spread the word of not only struggle but benefits of believing and overcoming that is the greatest asset anybody can bring whether I see a change or not. Martin Luther King Jr spoke about change that didn't take effect until 2008 so what does that tell you.

What do you feel you have to bring to the music world?

I bring a sense of style, swag, and a fresh face to the music world along with my hot ass rhymes lol.

Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal?

I guess you can say im looking for both in a sense because im running an independent label that I would like to turn major. I feel that im more of a leader so why be a soldier in someone elses camp when you can be the general in your own.

Are you a part of any music label, if so which one(s)?

Yes im part of an indie label Blueprint Ent.

How do you feel about the competition out there right now?

Well if I was thinking about them that would mean I feel threatened right? I feel like no man can be better than me at what I do than me and if everyone smart they'll stick to what they do so they can be the best at something. Competition is someone that can actually compete with you right? *No competition, nothing to think about*.

What personality do you want to display to fans through your music?

Humble, fly, easy to relate too, little cockiness, and understanding.

If you had to say one of each what would be your strength in music, and what would be your weakness?

My strength would be how influencing I find myself to be sometimes, and my weakness would have to be me not wanting people to take the negative and interpret it as the right thing to do.

What would you say is your hottest song right now?

My hottest song right now would have to be "My Chips" I've been getting a very positive feedback on that song.

Describe your fan base. Who is your music meant for?

I can't really say who my music is meant for because im not consuming it. But I can say that I find most fans to be between the ages of 17 on up only because the content of my music is deep as far as lyrics.

Who would you most compare your style to?

I would compare my style to my enviroment because we all go through different things and we're all a product of our enviroment so who better to compare my style with than what I think is truely responsible for my style.

Who did you learn from the most?

I learned the most from my dad because he taught me everything I know about God and what more can you ask for? God is the best gift.

Do you write your own songs?

Without boasting I helped myself out the most as an artist because like they say you can take a horse to the lake but you can't make him drink. So me and my peers.

What are your songs about?

Yes I write everything from the first letter to the last lol.

How do you describe your music to people?

My songs are about just about anything anyone can relate too, aren't we all human haha.

What image do you think your music conveys?

I would describe my music as self coincious. Im not really into all the hype crunk bang bang shoot em up dance type of music.

What are your immediate music career goals?

My immediate music goals would have to be introduce myself and establish myself as a strong presence artist. I also wanna start new ventures and open more venues.

What are your long-term career goals?

Long term career goals would have to be sell millions of albums and retire at the top of my game while keeping a positive image along with a few more ideas that I don't wanna let out the bag just yet.

How would you define the word “success”?

To me the definition of success is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration.

Have you had any radio play?

Due to the rules and regulation, NO.

What were you doing when you first heard your single on the radio?

N/A

How long did you, or have you been working on your album?

I haven't officially started working on my album yet but I have a lot of material that im considering for the cut.

What’s the title of the album or what is it gonna be?

Im unsure of the name of my album but im leaning towards "A Hustlers Poster Child".

Do you have a demo or press kit, or any other promotional materials?

I've started working on a presskit and demo but im not done yet.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Read answers 1-31 haha.

What type of music do you listen to? Who is on your iPod right now other than yourself?

Jay-Z, 50 cent, kanye west, capacity, ti, jadakiss, timberland, justin timberlake, keri hilson, etc.

Is there anything you’d like to tell the people before you go?

Thank you everyone for taking out the time to read this interview and please continue to support my music!
